Wilmington waterfront at the heart of the Seahawk Innovation ecosystem

About Us

Company builders, not portfolio managers

Founded in 2013 through a public-private partnership with the University of North Carolina Wilmington, Seahawk Innovation contributes time, talent, and treasure to create enduring enterprise value.

Partnership with UNCW

Born from a public-private alliance

In 2013, co-founders Tom Looney and Tobin Geatz approached the University of North Carolina Wilmington to create a public-private alliance aimed at enriching the university and the broader southeastern North Carolina economy.

By basing operations within UNCW’s Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship (CIE), the firm integrated individual entrepreneurial efforts into an ecosystem that accelerates startups and regional deal flow.
